The Department of English was established in 2007. Along with regular degree courses, it holds Spoken English classes for in-house students and Special Courses for students from outside the college. To maintain a rich academic ambience, the department regularly organises Seminars, Webinars, Workshops, Special Lectures, recitation competitions and other events. Using different virtual platforms during the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown phase(s) in 2020-21, the department has successfully organised an International Webinar on ‘Tell-tale Signs: Making Stories, (Un)making Histories’, a Special Lecture on "Re-visioning History: A Postcolonial Perspective" by Dr. Amrita Banerjee, and a virtual ‘Poetry Recitation Competition’ for its students. The Literary Association of the department has recently released the first edition of its students’ e-magazine, 'Stories'.
